Our team has over 40 years of experience in the paving industry, implementing our modern repair solutions and tools to restore your pavement and make it stronger and longer-lasting.

What Is Full Depth Reclamation?

Full-depth reclamation, also known as ‘FDR’, is a paving service that pulverizes sections of existing pavement and underlying materials. When thoroughly crushed, the mix is blended to create a stronger base for new pavement.

Benefits of Full-Depth Reclamation

Full-depth reclamation offers an innovative, cost-effective alternative to the more disruptive and costly pavement replacement services. Property owners who choose full-depth reclamation get the benefits of:

Stronger, More Durable Base

Pulverizing the top pavement layer and the underlying materials creates a far more durable base. The enhancements allow newly laid pavement to better withstand heavy traffic and reduce the risk of future deterioration.

Eco-Friendly Process

The full-depth reclamation process relies solely on the existing materials that have been installed, without using any new materials. Recycling these existing materials eliminates the need to extract new resources. Additionally, the reclamation process does not produce pollution during the heating and mixing process created in other paving solutions.

Cost Savings

The primary process reuses the existing paving materials, immediately cutting off the costs of transporting and disposing of new materials. With modern equipment and tools, the reclamation process takes less time compared to other paving services, saving you money on equipment usage and labor.

Faster Project Completion

Paving solutions like full reconstruction require extensive material removal and replacement, which results in a long project that disrupts daily traffic. Instead, full-depth reclamation utilizes preexisting materials and modern paving equipment, eliminating the need for lengthy removal and replacement.

The Full-Depth Reclamation Process

1. Pulverization
Our team pulverizes the preexisting pavement and a determined portion of the underlying materials. This is done using our state-of-the-art paving equipment, which takes the material and breaks it apart into smaller pieces.
2. Blending
Once broken apart, the small pieces are blended into a consistent mix, allowing specific materials such as the binders to be equal throughout.
3. Compaction
The blended materials are compacted using equipment such as heavy rollers to create a stable base with proper durability and density.
4. Install
A new layer of asphalt is installed over the freshly compacted material and then compacted again for a smooth, durable finish.
5. Finishing & Marking
After compaction, our team will lay out and paint the proper markings and line striping.

Asphalt Milling vs. Full-Depth Reclamation: Which One Is Right For You?

Signs That Asphalt Milling is Needed

In some instances, pavement damage is surface-level, meaning full-depth reclamation is unnecessary.

Instead, asphalt milling provides the perfect solution, taking only the first few inches of the pavement, providing a way to repair issues like cracks and potholes.

This quick process is ideal if you notice signs such as:

  • Cracks of wear on the surface
  • Uneven pavement or safety hazards
  • Standing water due to poor drainage

When Full-Depth Reclamation is the Right Choice

You can benefit from full-depth reclamation if the pavement damage has gone beyond the first few inches, you can benefit from full-depth reclamation. Full-depth reclamation is essential for extensive damage, as it removes the damaged material and completely restores the pavement’s structural integrity.

It’s time for a full-depth reclamation if you see signs such as:

  • Major structural weakness due to failing subgrade
  • Extensive cracking and expanding potholes
  • Desire for a long-lasting paving solution
